I was talking to God Sunday morning on the way to the movie theater (where I planned on a healthy dose of Zombie slaying).   Why was I on my way to the movies and not to church on Sunday? Well, that’s a good question.   I call myself a Christian after all, and I do believe fellowship is important.   But on Sunday I was heading to the early show to see the new Resident Evil movie. Since moving here two years ago we can’t seem to find our church “niche.”   It’s not ...

Yesterday, I was listening to talk radio, Glenn Beck, in the van.   Link   First, I am not a huge fan of Mr. Beck’s alarmist tendencies.   He is also way too sarcastic for my taste.   Sarcasm is ok peppered in with witty banter.   What Mr. Beck doesn’t seem to understand …..sarcasm ISN’T witty banner.   He was going off on how fat Brittany Spears looked at the MTV awards.   Personally, I didn’t think she looked bad, especially po...

Summer is over.   Someone needs to let Mother Nature know.   She’s not taking my calls.   It’s supposed to be 95 here today.   That’s hot for September.   I am addicted.   Today I admit it to myself and the world.   Everyday I must have a bowl of mixed sweet corn, pinto beans, white rice, chipped up avocado, and salsa.   I’m eating some right now.   It is so yummy with salsa made from fresh tomatoes out of the garden. ...

My son started sixth grade this year.   In our area, sixth grade is the first year of middle school/junior high.   Last night was the “parents only” open house.   Actually, it involved parents, all the other siblings, but not the actual middle school attendee in tow.   It was hot.   Our schools are old and have no air conditioning.   They are literally falling apart.   We already pay huge property taxes, but they go for things like brick...

We love you.   We believe everything Jesus says, so we might not agree with everything you choose in your life (you don’t need our approval anyway) ...but you are still family.   We trust God to convict you of sin; it is not our place to condemn you for it.   Everybody is in a different place on the path and accountable to God.   We path walkers are family, despite sin, despite human foibles, we love each other, help each other.   Come as you are.   You don’...

Today I met Melissa.   I was in my garage sanding the trash table find by hand ( http://lifehappens.joeuser.com/index.asp?AID=155909 ) and mumbling under my breath.   It was about 86 degrees and 80 percent humidity.   Once I stripped the piece, I found the stains.   Deep stains that no amount of sanding will erase, thus the grumbling.     A short young woman with red hair pinned atop a sweating head approached my garage.   She was...

All day I work and do things with the kids and think of hundreds of things to write an article about.   Then I sit down to do it and…nadda.   Cleaned house today.   It was actually raining when I woke up, and rainy days are house cleaning days.   The cable guy came, tracked mud across my carpet, thank you very much.   My high speed internet is not connected correctly, or wasn’t, he fixed it.   (Something about it not being grounded and a bad s...

Random bits of nothing.   Today is Hunter’s last day of school for the year.   Next year he moves onto middle school and the big SIXTH grade.   Why am I dreading that?     Hunter has a lot of “only child” friends.   Most of these kids are more mature than their peers and since Hunter was an “only” for 7 years they all seem to hit it off well.   Fine.   Great.   Good.   Except these only child families don’t mi...

Is it just me or did spring totally skip out this year?   Just when it started warming up and things began turning green, it turned bitter cold, killing all the buds and many perennials which were already poking their heads out.   Then, BAM, last week we were close to 90.   And since the rain is missing us, everyone’s lawns are already going dormant (read brown) in MAY!   This may not seem like a big deal to anyone else, but it is to me.   Yesterday...

I was covered in dirt today (tilling flower beds and moving dirt) when a Col who works with my hubby pulled up to deliver these..... It was such a nice surprise.  I used to tell my husband not to get me flowers, it was a waste of money since they just die.  Now I cherish every bloom. So to all the mom's on JU, I want to share these with you. Happy Mother's Day.

Today blue skies birthed seventy degrees after days of chilly weather.   I took my four year old to our favorite park.   We like to go during the day when all the “big” kids are at school.   When we arrived, there were about twenty parents, and probably thirty children.   It is a large park with two major areas of primary colored plastic play equipment and a sand pit in the middle.   It wasn’t crowded.   There are several blue rubber co...

Chapter 1   Jason crumpled the yellow hamburger wrapper in a large meaty fist.   He threw it into the back seat without taking his eyes off the red brick two story across the street.   It bounced once on the white leather seat and fell prostrate with its brothers littering the rear floor board of the 1968 mustang.   He tapped thick fingers against the white steering wheel.   A humid June breeze brought sounds of suburbia settling down for the night....
