I miss Bakerstreet.

Even though part of the time I didn't understand what he was saying, (that was my inability not his), he gave JU a certain intellectual sophistication and wit.  I looked forward to reading him along with my other JU favorites.

Anyone know him in real life?  How is his health?  How's his family?

I miss Bakerstreet!

~~~~returning from lurk mode
I miss him as well. He left under unfortunate circumstances. At the time, I felt like I was the only one who understood him. Maybe I should have surfaced then, but we all have things going on in our lives, and I decided to just lurk throughout 2007.
He hasn't logged in for a few months, but hopefully he does read JU from time to time. Baker - we miss you!
Hope all is well in your life.
I miss him too.....
"He gave JU a certain intellectual sophistication and wit." Indeed, I couldn't agree more.
"Anyone know him in real life? How is his health? How's his family?" I will ask and, if answered, post an update.
Thank you for writing this.
I was in on the nasty fight that caused him to finally leave. It was mostly due to people being far too hasty with their generalizations, and it ended up in personal attacks upon the both of us.
We didn't agree on much, but we always agreed that to generalize a chunk of a population based on the actions of a very few is not only foolhardy but ignorant and ridiculous.
I miss him as well.
I'm another that misses his writings a lot too.  Always something interesting and intelligent, and always great in a debate.
I dunno.  LW might know.
I agree.
I don't think I remember the fight SC.  I don't think a fight would be the REAL reason Baker left.  Maybe, more at home, in real life personal reasons?  He was always able to hold his own against anyone.  And fights were fairy regular. heh.  I was hoping he'd write some political articles now that we are getting close to elections...he has a way of cutting right to the heart of things.
I will ask and, if answered, post an update.
That will be GREAT!  Thanks.  Tell him I say hello and I hope life is treating him well.
He left under unfortunate circumstances. At the time, I felt like I was the only one who understood him.
The thing I liked best about Baker was he was wiley and SMART.  He is one of the main reasons I really started looking at what I believe and why concerning a multitude of subjects.
I saw his name earlier today as I went to the blogging section. He was the last person to post on the POST SITE PROBLEMS HERE article at the top so his name shows up as the last post on the main screen.
I, tooo wondered how he was. He was smart, witty and an interesting read, especially during heated arguments. Last I saw of him, he was swinging at just about anyone even for the simplest of words that he did not agree on. He was very upset and his words literally gave the impression of slamming the door on his way out.
He was a kool JU writer. I guess you can say i miss him too.
Just checking back after a month of silence. I hope no news isn't bad news!?!
have not seen baker in a while and where the heck is Elie?
on Feb 16, 2008
I seriously doubt he'll be back. I'm pretty sure he was pissed off at the direction JU was going and was sick of the same-old, same-old, especially on the politics front. My impression of his last posts was that Gid shat him enough to make him leave.
There may have been other factors, but regardless I doubt he'll be back.
Then we all have really suffered a loss. When I read a forum such as this, I not only look for diversity of opinion, but clarity of thought and critical analysis of the issues. Baker provided all of these.
Personally, I've found that my mind isn't fast enough to be an active participant in the volume of discussion that occurs here. I can read it, digest it, and enjoy it - but for me to respond to more than a few articles a week would take far too much time.
I recognize those that can post and respond frequently as having something that I lack. Perhaps God intended me to be a lurker.
I haven't gotten along very well with Bakerstreet in the past, but if he is reading this I'd like to take this opportunity to wish him well.
I "get" much more from JU than I give. For pretty much the same reason as you, time. You should go ahead and post. You don't have to be prolific or even right....unless of course you HAVE to be right....then it can take serious time. haha
I hope no news isn't bad news!?!
I hope the same.
I miss him too. He has very similar world views to me.  Which means, naturally we clash.
Nope, I don't have to be right. But I do like to be understood. I figure that if someone doesn't understand my message properly, then I probably haven't delivered as well I could. Which takes time. Hence the problem.
I also feel that if I start a thread and others respond to it, that I owe them the courtesy of at least acknowledging their input. And since you never know when something that you've written will take off, I like to know that I have the time availabe to reply.
