Ever thought about getting one?
Published on September 19, 2005 By Tova7 In Home & Family
This is my last post tonight. It is late and there is a severe storm kicking up its heals outside. Don't want to get zapped!

So, to the point, anyone have a security system? If so what brand, type, whatever.

I am thinking about one since I am alone here with the kids most of the time. We're in a good area with low crime, but big deal.

On some level I think its totally self-centered to believe for one instant someone would want to break into our house. I mean why ours and not the neighbors or the half million dollar homes a block over? But then I think about how things always seem to happen when my husband is gone....and how I am here by myself with nothing but my dented aluminum bat....

So do you have a security system? Would you have one if your signifcant other was gone a lot? If you have one are you happy with it?

A dog is out of the question.

I have a wooden baseball bat. That's it. I got wood cause I didn't want either of my kids to bash the other's skull in with an aluminum one.

During the deployment last year, there were a lot of break ins and rapes on base (many sleepless nights worrying for me), but now that everyone is back, they have enough MPs to regularly patrol the neighborhoods...and knowing that the guys are back home now is probably a deterrent for criminals, too.

Locks and my bat. That's my security system.

We have ADT, includes fire and carbon monoxide monitoring.

For colleen when I am not home {that's rare these days} she is fully trained and has her very own browning hi-power 9mm parabellum 14 shot clip 15 if she keeps one in the snout, {she does not}

I have guns. Just locked up so the kids can't get them....with the ammo clear across the house.

Glad to hear I am not the only one who thinks about this stuff.....

We had ADT for awhile. Primarily 'cause we had some really wacky neighbours and I was on the road for my job a good deal. It worked fine.

We only had to actually use it once. Someone tried to jimmy one of the windows and the local PD was there within seconds (it was a silent alarm on the windows). The alarm on the door was audible.

We ended up getting rid of the service because the town we lived in at the time had a funky regulation that you had to pay an additional fee to the city to have one in your house. Seems that they were getting a lot of false alarms and wanted to try and cut down on them. Didn't work too well.
