Foreign Policy
Published on October 22, 2012 By Tova7 In Politics

Tonight is the third, and final (thank goodness!) debate.

Usually, I wait until after to review it... but since this is the last one wanted to mix it up a little bit.

I'm curious about three things:

1.  What do you think should be discussed tonight?

2.  Is there something either candidate can say that might make them appear "the winner?"

3.  What the hell are we doing about last month's terrorist attack?  How did that even happen??

I have my own ideas of course.  This may end up being the most interesting debate simply because it's last.  And, how in the world do you talk about foreign policy for 90 minutes??  Correction, how in the world do you talk about BOs foreign policy for 90 minutes?  It appears non-existent!

I wonder if perhaps there will be plenty of other topics infused into this conversation....and who will do the infusing.

Here is what I don't want to see:

1.  The bickering back and forth.  While it satisfies the inner caveman (or woman!) it doesn't really lend itself to substantial discourse.  Which may be exactly why it is employed.  Hopefully this will be minimized since BO has a record and Mitt doesn't.

2.  The moderator, Bob Shieffer, inserting himself into the parlay.

He says this debate will be about:

"how dangerous the world is in which we live...Iran's  nuclear intentions, the bloody crackdown in Syria, economic angst in Europe,  security concerns in Afghanistan, China's growing power -- all that and more are  on the agenda."

We'll see.

Reporters and anchors by nature tend to be camera hogs.  Hopefully Bob won't operate under the false impression we care what he thinks.

Ok, I reserve the opportunity to update after the debate.  But not right after.  I like to let things brew over-night.

So I'm a member of another board, health related.

It is all women, or 99.9%.

Inadvertently I mentioned Obamacare.  Inadvertently because as I read one of the actual drafts to the law, it used a panel of bureaucrats (2009) to say women between 40-50 don't need Mammos, and women over 74 don't either.  And at that time Obamacare wasn't going to cover it.

I mentioned my concern about this...(and what it might mean to women 40-50) that these exclusions were in the original language of the law, and later amended back to NCI (Nat. Cancer. Instit.) guidelines.  But of course I didn't find the amendment until after commenting on the panel...lol.

Being it's Pinktober, breast cancer awareness month, it seemed appropriate to talk about how to pay for Mammos, and the current guidelines for getting them.

Um, can you say "can of worms?"

One woman is very factual, informed, and precise.  I appreciated her information, though I don't agree with her politically.

Another woman was offended I called it Obamacare, and then made comments about my military health care and how nice it must be to not worry about getting coverage.

So I apologized to the women on the thread for taking it off topic, then I confronted the personal attack in PM from the second woman.

I told her if she wanted my healthcare, to sign up and serve!  And if she's too old, too bad!  Those were HER choices....

I tried to tell her for example how my health care is "rationed" when treated in a military hospital.  What that means is...I have been denied certain scans/procedures, (scans women get in the private sector as "standard" care), because "policy" says I don't need them.  Not because my DOCTOR says I don't need them, but because policy says...and because doc doesn't want to rock the boat, he falls in line with it.  She won't even read that part I'm sure.

I don't mind political disagreement, enjoy it even.  But she had to attack me personally?  Really?  On a forum for women with cancer?  Over Obamacare?!?

Come on!

I'm sick of it...can't wait for this election to be gone so we can all start being Americans again.

Tova, I really appreciate the viewpoint you bring to your blog.

With her 'it must be nice' comment what she is proposing is not covering health care for our armed forces and their familes.

Considering the sacrifices you must have made, along with your family, I think we're not doing enough.

Thanks Jyth!

It might amuse you to know, she just PMed and basically called me a Republican talking point, under "Corporate control."  (And they say right wingers have conspiracy theories!)

Which is kind of funny since I was using the law, as passed, to make my oberservations.

Oh well.

Just a wild-ass guess, but she's not been ill with anything serious.  Yet.

Neither have I.  Phew.

Just in case you thought that was an excuse or something.

No, she's a BC survivor.  However, she has private insurance and her husband is retired military (tho I get the impression she wasn't married to him while he served).

She just doesn't "have a problem paying for other people's healthcare, and frankly don't [doesn't] understand how anyone could [mind paying for someone else's health care]."

Whatevs.

Change of topic...I found a really good time line for Libya, though it is hard to keep it updated with all the new info coming out every day.

Buwhahaha.... nope.

I hope you never, EVER, have any kind of catastrophic health issue.

They're tedious.

You are the Mistress of Understatement.  (Master of Understatement just didn't... work.)

on Oct 26, 2012

Way to get away with calling her 'Mistress'.

on Oct 27, 2012

Shoulda been 'Grand Mistress of Understatement'.  She's been to hell and back.

on Oct 29, 2012

Lol, my husband like the mistress title for me....heheh.

Hope this Frankestorm doesn't knock out power here.  I know, it's Ohio right?  We shouldn't really be affected.  But if the wind blows hard we lose power.

I won't complain tho....we're not in the brunt.

on Oct 29, 2012

You don't happen to live in NW Ohio, do you?

on Oct 29, 2012

Nope....southwest.... between cincinnati and columbus

Nope....southwest.... between cincinnati and columbus

I think it is called Dayton.

I just finished my re-certification, so am winding down, and caught your article - a week late.  Of the 3, I would say that Obama came closest to winning this one.  But he lost the election with the first.  After that, it was like a football game for Romney with his team way out in front.  He was just playing to maintain, and not get any players hurt (i.e. any Bidenisms).

Technically, yes.  Though I might get kicked out of the skinny white girl suburb if I claim Dayton.
